Our dear Shasta passed from this life on May 28th, 2014 at the age of 16. She was a rescue dog, but she was mostly about rescuing others. She had a long and fruitful life as a friend, family member, nursing home chaplain and neighbor. Others will remember her as Shasta the Wonder Dog. We will just remember her as the best dog ever.
C.S. Lewis believed dogs do indeed go to heaven. He wrote: ""The theory I am suggesting...makes God the centre of the universe and man the subordinate centre of terrestrial nature: the beasts are not co-ordinate with man, but subordinate to him, and their destiny is through and through related to his. And the derivative immortality suggested for them is not a mere amende or compensation: It is part and parcel of the new heaven and new earth, organically related to the whole suffering process of the world's fall and redemption."
Who are we to argue with C.S. Lewis. Thank you Lord for our friend Shasta.
